This Privacy Policy explains how اقرأ (Iqra) ("the App", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our mobile application and related services. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
The App does not require you to create an account, and does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, or photos. We collect only the following:
- Location data: With your permission, we access your device's precise or approximate location to calculate prayer (Salah) times, determine the Qibla direction, and find nearby mosques. For nearby mosque search, your coordinates are sent to the OpenStreetMap Overpass API (a third-party service) to look up mosques near you. Location is also used with Google's mapping and geocoding services to display maps and determine your city. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings; some features (e.g. automatic prayer times, nearby mosques) will then require manual input or become unavailable.
- Notification data: We use local, on-device notifications (Adhan/prayer reminders) which are scheduled entirely on your device based on calculated prayer times. No notification content is transmitted to our servers.
- Locally stored data: Bookmarks, custom Dhikr/Dua entries, dhikr counters, language, and theme preferences are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.
- Standard server logs: Like most web services, our server automatically logs basic technical information included in every network request (such as IP address, request timestamp, and device/browser identifier) for security and troubleshooting purposes.
Donations are currently disabled (under maintenance) and do not collect any payment or personal information at this time. If donations are reintroduced in a future update, this policy will be updated first to describe what is collected and how.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide core features: prayer times, Qibla direction, nearby mosque search, Quran/Hadith content, Dhikr/Dua, Zakat calculation, and the live Makkah stream.
- To schedule and deliver Adhan and prayer-time notifications.
- To maintain, secure, and improve the App, and to diagnose technical issues.
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information with:
- Mapping and location services (Google Maps/Geocoding, OpenStreetMap/Overpass API) to display maps and find nearby mosques.
- YouTube, to display the live Makkah stream; playing it loads content from YouTube (Google), which is subject to Google's own privacy policy.
- Hosting/infrastructure providers who help us run the App's backend, under obligations to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.
- Legal authorities, where required to comply with a legal obligation, protect our rights, or ensure user safety.
4. Data Retention
We do not retain personal data on our servers beyond standard, short-lived server logs kept for security and troubleshooting. Data stored locally on your device (bookmarks, custom Dhikr/Dua, preferences) remains on your device until you delete the App or clear its data.
5. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- You can grant or revoke location and notification permissions at any time through your device settings.
- You can delete locally stored data (bookmarks, custom Dhikr/Dua, cached content) by clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App.
- You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal information we hold about you by contacting us using the details below.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
